Ivano is one of the beautiful cities of Ukraine, an important scientific and cultural center. State establishment Ivano Frankivsk National Medical University [IFNMU] is a modern institution of higher education with rich traditions. 

Establishment of Ivano Frankivsk National Medical University was founded in the year of 1945. Ivano Frankivsk National Medical University is one of the oldest and leading medical University of Ukraine from last 68 years and former USSR. High level of qualification allows graduates of the University to work successfully in many countries of the world, to achieve great success in science and practical public health services. Among them are scientists, heads of public health service, honored doctors.

Ivano Frankivsk National Medical University provides high quality education to students who are looking for quality education at an affordable course fees. There are Thirteen faculties and a preparatory department. The Ivano Frankivsk National Medical University trains specialists along the following education / qualification levels: Under graduate, Junior specialists, specialists, Masters for the following specialties.

Ivano Frankivsk National Medical University prepares specialists in 185 medical specialities. Good facilities, high qualification level of the teaching staff, scientific and methodical provision led Ivano Frankivsk National Medical University is one of the leading places in the country.

Teaching Staff 443 teachers, among them 77 PhDs, 264 candidates for PhD and 19 Academicians, including five Honored Science and Technique Workers of Ukraine, one Honored Worker of public education of Ukraine, two Honored doctors of Ukraine, two Laureates of State prize of Ukraine carry out pedagogical, scientific, medical and educational work at 48 departments. ABOUT UKRAINE : 

Ukraine is a country in the East of Europe. It has an area of 603,628 Sq. km making it the largest contiguous country on the European continent. The neighboring countries of Ukraine are: Belarus, Russia, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Moldova and Poland. To the South Ukraine is washed with Black Sea and Sea of Azov. The country has the sea boarders with Turkey, Bulgaria and Georgia.

Ukraine is a state with the democratic form of governing, headed by the nation-wide elected president. The verkhovna Rada (the Ukrainian parliament) is the highest legislative body. It consists of 450 members, elected for 4-term in accordance with the proportional majority system. On August 24, 1991 Ukraine declared itself an independent state. In an effort to rebuild the country of Ukraine has opened her doors to foreign investors, businessmen, and foremost to tourists.

Ukraine has always been hospitable and friendly, always happy to receive foreign businessmen, foreign guests, tourists and students. 

The richly talented Ukrainian people have created wonderful architecture, many monuments both secular and religious, dating from 11th to 18th centuries can be seen in all throughout Ukraine towns and cities. If you get a chance, visit some of the many historic sites and towns, where numerous treasures will tell you of the great past and traditions. The past is reflected in the architecture and atmosphere of cities.

Ukraine has a well-developed economy with considerable portions of agricultural and industrial sectors. Space and rocket engineering, aircraft and ship building, high tech equipment production are among the main branches of the Ukrainian industry.

Space and rocket complex of Ukraine has great potential. Ukraine is distinguished by a high level scientific potential. After Ukraine regained its independence, ideas of nation cultural revival stimulated the process of democratization in cultural sphere, pluralism in a creativity process, made cultural life in the regions more active. Broadening of international contacts has become a positive tendency.

Cultural life of national minorities in Ukraine – Bulgarian, Greek, Jewish, Crimean Tartar, German, Polish, Russian, Romanian, Hungarian and dozens of others – is very diversified. A system of national schools, libraries, mass media, scientific centers, radio and television, theatres and creative societies is being developed. Languages of all peoples inhabiting the territory of Ukraine are granted equality on the state level.

Today Ukraine is an internationally oriented center of high technology, with speech technology, micro electronics, chips development, media technology and genetic engineering as out standing examples. Thanks to international communications and transport systems it is literally the hub of central Europe.

The National Academy of sciences, higher educational institutions of Ukraine maintain broad international contacts. Broadening of international contacts has become a positive tendency.

CO-OPERATION WITH THE DEVELOPING COUNTRIES :

Ukraine attaches great importance to the international economic, scientific, medical and technological cooperation, particularly in the field of sharing the national experience with other countries. First of all it concerns training of highly skilled technical and medical personnel for developing countries. A lot of specialists from the developing countries have graduated from the educational institutions of Ukraine.

Transportation : 

Ukraine is linked with most major European cities. Most international flights go to Ukraine. International trains enter Ukraine from several countries. Sail by ship is also available between various cities in the black sea and Mediterranean. All official land border crossings into Ukraine are unrestricted, if you have a visa ahead of time.

Getting between major Ukrainian cities is best done by train and also by flight. They are frequent , cheap and often convenient journey. There are bus services to most cities and towns. Taxi services are numerous in Ukraine. For foreigners an international driving license is required to drive automobiles in Ukraine.

CURRENCY : 

 Hryvnya (UAH) = 100 Kopiyok (singular-kopiyka). Notes are in denominations of 500, 200, 100, 50, 10, 5, 2, and 1 hryvnya. Coins are in denominations of 50, 25, 10, 5, 2, 1 kopiyok. Foreign currencies should only be changed at currency exchanges on the streets or in banks.

COST OF LIVING : 

In order to live comfortably while you are in Ivano, you will need to have about $USD 100 to 120 per month available for living costs, above the cost of your tuition. The cost of living is cheaper than any other cities in the European countries. It is difficult to give a precise figure because of differences in the student lifestyle. 

You will receive advice from financial advisers at the on how best to handle your money, but initially it is important to note that you should have some cash for immediate costs (e.g. airport costs or transport). You may need further funds in the form of travellers’ cheques which can be readily cashed. There are foreign exchange offices everywhere in Ukraine. 

We strongly recommend that while in Ukraine you do not carry large amounts of cash in your hand or leave cash in your room. We suggest opening a bank account as soon as possible after arrival. There are three banks with branches in the campus area. There are numerous automatic teller machines that dispense cash 24 hours a day. 

Any major amounts of money may be sent in the form of a bank draft, but electronic transfers are, in most cases, the most efficient method of sending funds to Ukraine. Overseas cheques are sometimes difficult to clear and are not recommended.


HOSTEL & ACCOMODATION :

Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University possesses an excellent system of hostel accommodation. It owns three hostel buildings with capacity of over 2000 students. 

Rooms are fully furnished and consist of an apartment like system with a two bed and a three bed room with an attached toilet. On each floor there is a common hall and a common kitchen for cooking. On the ground floor there is a gym cum recreation center including a table tennis table. 

Hostel rooms come furnished with beds, mattress, pillows, blanket, two side tables, one cupboard per room and one table and chair per room. Occupants get a weekly change of bed-sheet and pillow case. Hot water is available in designated hours. All rooms are centrally heated. A plumber, carpenter and electrician are available on call. 

Admission to the Hostel is competitive. It is based on first come-first serve and subject to availability. Students residing in the hostel sign an annual contract and are expected to follow the rules of the hostel; which include closing of the hostel gate at 11.00 pm, registering all visitors to the hostel, not making noise and showing consideration to fellow residents in the hostel.

HOSTEL FEES : 

Hostel fees are @ US $ 800 per annum.
A contract is signed, between the Student and the University and this is renewed every year. Hostel fees once paid, are not refundable.

The main hostel is located about 2 kilometers from the Deans’s office and the City center. Many buses cover this distance or it is a pleasant 20-25 minute walk. Supermarkets and grocery shops are within 2-3 minutes walk from the hostel.

Off campus housing / flats are available to students who can rent rooms or flats in private apartments. These are at various prices ranging from $150 to $350 per month depending on size and location of the flat. International Students who live outside the hostel are required to notify the Foreign Dean’s office in writing of their address so that the address changes is informed to the Foreigners Registration office as required under the laws of Ukraine.
